Recreational-resort
communities, offer a pleasant blend of the older historical theme of Cave
Creek with the newer planned community of Carefree. Both towns are nestled
in the Sonoran Desert foothills, directly north of Scottsdale and northeast
of Phoenix. Cave Creek, which was settled in the late 1870's became a
booming mining camp during the 1880's and incorporated in 1986. Carefree, on
the other hand, was established in the late 1950's as a planned community
and incorporated in 1984.
The two communities are basically residential areas with heavy emphasis on
resort-style living. Tourism is the largest contributor to the area economy.
A substantial number of retail and commercial establishments serve the
residents and visitors of the communities.
Carefree and Cave Creek are communities so embroidered into the surrounding
landscape that it is difficult to determine where one begins and the other
ends. Much of the natural scenery is spectacular, with massive piles of
granite boulders, sharp mountains and an abundance of desert growth that
thrives at this 2,000 to 2,700 foot altitude. Because of low-density
development, residents share the area with deer, bobcats, cardinals,
coyotes, javelinas, coveys of quail, and an occasional mountain lion.
The area's man-made attractions include the many unique homes perched on the
mountain; an eclectic assortment of shops and restaurants; the Carefree
Sundial, the third largest and most accurate in the Western Hemisphere and
Cave Creek Museum.
The National Forest borders the area on two sides with its untouched desert
beauty. The Sonoran desert offers a wide variety of plant life and color. |
Cave Creek Homes and Real Estate for
Sale in Maricopa County, Arizona
Cave Creek: Described by many as “the
jewel of the desert,” the region known as North Phoenix is one of the
fastest-growing communities in Arizona. Though almost half of the 242
square miles of the area is still pristine Sonoran Desert, an influx of
new business into the area has increased the employment base and spurred
the creation of a number of new residential developments. Of these, the
town of Cave Creek and the community known as Desert Ridge are among the
best residential communities the area has to offer. Both of these growing
communities are less than 30 minutes from the heart of Phoenix and some of
the best shopping, entertainment and recreational facilities the state has
to offer. Both have managed to maintain their small-town atmosphere and
eco-friendly relationship with their rugged desert surroundings. With an
abundance of open land and a low population density, residents often share
space with the likes of deer, bobcats, cardinals and quail, along with an
abundance of ancient saguaro cactus. An array of recreational activities
such as hiking, golf, horseback riding and art exhibits are available to
residents, and nearby lakes provide perfect venues for fishing, boating
and other water sports. In addition, the Cave Creek School District is one
of the best in the state, providing elementary, middle and high school
students with the kind of personalized attention only an area with a rural
atmosphere can provide. The town of
Cave Creek, while recently incorporated in 1986, began as a small mining
town built out of its rocky desert surroundings during the Arizona gold
rush in the 1880s. Residents who stayed behind after the gold dried up
turned to ranching, and much of this heritage can still be seen in both
residents and town design. Even today, Cave Creek has become a refuge for
those who want to escape big city life and enjoy the country lifestyle.
Numerous horseback-riding trails can be found throughout the city and into
the 2.9 million acre Tonto National Forest. Some roads in the city have
even been left unpaved to cater to horseback riding residents and preserve
the natural beauty surrounding the area.
For those who prefer a more modern lifestyle, Downtown Cave Creek provides
a number of unique shops and restaurants, and several resort-quality
facilities, bed and breakfasts, and golf courses have been built within
easy reach of the city center. Several art festivals are held annually,
including the colorful Fiesta Days Parade.
The area known as Desert Ridge is a fast-growing planned community perfect
for those wishing to escape from the frenzied pace of life in bigger
cities such as Phoenix. With the completion of the outer loop 101 Freeway
that connects directly to Scottsdale Road, west to the Sun City area and
south to meet with route 10 all the way to California, Desert Ridge has
become ideal for those who work in the city, but wish to live and perhaps
raise their families among more peaceful surroundings. However, the
community is by no means isolated from the amenities of modern life, with
a $180 million Desert Ridge Marketplace providing world-class shopping,
entertainment, restaurants, a newly built Mayo Clinic Hospital and a soon
to be completed W.T. Marriott at Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. Desert Ridge
also features two championship golf courses, parks, recreational paths and
cutting edge school facilities.
Several of the planned communities in the area are gated and have been
designed around championship golf courses, providing residents with the
all the luxury and greenery that golf courses can provide. With all that
is has to offer, Desert Ridge is sure to become one of the most desirable
places to live in Arizona.
